Deciding on a career path can be tricky. For instance, how do you know you will enjoy doing the job every day unless you have an opportunity to do some of the tasks involved?
At the recent E3 Skilled Trades Day at Montpelier High School, students got to explore the career of a lineworker by performing some of the tasks that our employees do on the job. The students put on the linemen’s safety gear and reset a fuse, twisted a tie wire to an insulator, used a crimper to connect wires and also tried to cut another wire using only one hand.
Two of our linemen shared their training paths and how they handle on-the-job tasks. Since it was a cold, windy day, the students could get a real feel for some of the working conditions that the linemen face all year long. We hope all the students gained knowledge of a lineworker’s career and also an appreciation for what our employees do to keep the electricity flowing for our members!
