Scholarship Programs

Supporting the future

North Western Electric Cooperative is proud to offer FIVE scholarship programs to the children of our member-owners.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS ONLY

The deadline to submit scholarship applications for the 2022 contests has passed.

All eligible applicants will receive a letter with information regarding the interviews that will be held on March 9 at Defiance College. Thank you to all the students who applied!

Children of Members Scholarship

North Western Electric Cooperative, Inc. awards two (2) first place cash awards (one male and one female) of $1,500 each and two (2) second place cash awards (one male and one female) of $750 each.  One first place winner will compete in the statewide contest for additional scholarship funds.

Touchstone Energy® Achievement Scholarship

North Western Electric Cooperative, Inc. awards one (1) cash award of $1,000 to a graduating senior who has excelled despite personal challenges and who has exhibited the same values in their lives as the Touchstone Energy® brand: accountability, integrity, innovation and commitment to community.

Gertrude Studer Memorial Scholarship

North Western Electric Cooperative Inc., along with the Edgerton Area Foundation will award a $500 scholarship to one Williams County student in memory of longtime Edgerton resident, Gertrude Studer.  Gertrude is credited with attending every annual meeting of the cooperative since its inception.  She also loved attending the county fair and was involved in 4-H and FFA organizations throughout her life.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND CURRENT TECHNICAL SCHOOL STUDENTS

POWER UP Technical Scholarship - (formerly known as the PowerUP Scholarship) -

We are proud to announce that the scholarship formerly known as PowerUp has been revised and will now be referred to as the POWER UP Technical Scholarship.

The rules have been changed:

Applicants can now be:

  • high school graduates enrolling in a technical program
  • current technical school enrollees (regardless of age)
  • those enrolling in a post-undergraduate technical program (regardless of age)

All area graduating seniors may apply:

  • Formerly only open to students graduating from a local vocational school, the revised rules removed that restriction to allow more students the opportunity to apply.
  • Additional rules apply so read the instructions included with the application carefully.

Advance to the statewide competition

  • North Western Electric Cooperative, Inc. will award one (1) cash award of $1,000 locally.
  • Winner will advance to compete in the statewide contest with a chance to win more cash.

STUDENTS CURRENTLY ATTENDING DEFIANCE COLLEGE ONLY

Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives Scholarship

North Western Electric Cooperative, Inc. offers this Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives Scholarship in partnership with Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative to a student of Defiance College. The student must be currently attending Defiance College.

One (1) cash award of $2,000 will be awarded to a Defiance College student who is a member-owner, or whose parent or parents are member-owners of one of the two sponsoring cooperatives. The student must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater and must be a full-time student actively pursuing a Bachelor's Degree. The scholarship will be awarded on basis of financial need so the student must not be the recipient of a full tuition scholarship or tuition reimbursement from their employer.
